Toll of the River is a complete folk horror short adventure for Daggerheart, designed for 3–6 players and a GM. Perfect as a standalone session or as a drop-in arc for an ongoing campaign, it blends atmospheric storytelling with tense bargains, haunting environments, and a climactic solo boss battle.

Inside you’ll find:

  • A full 5-act adventure spanning village intrigue, marshland traversal, sunken shrines, and the Cathedral of the Maw.

  • Unique environments built for custom gameplay, including:
The Endless Marshes – an endless, sprawling
The Ledger Wall – a psychological trial etched with the names of debtors.

  • Custom adversaries like River Eels, Thorned Carp Swarms, Wharf Lurkers, and the monstrous Bramble Maw himself, each with mechanics inspired by Daggerheart’s SRD.

  • The Binding Rite, a high-stakes ritual event that can weaken or seal Bramble Maw, but only at terrible cost.

  • Alternative endings that hinge on player choices: slay, bind, serve, or bargain with the Maw.

  • Session Zero & Death options, including new bargain-driven mechanics that let PCs make fateful deals at the edge of death.

  • Expanding the Campaign guidance, showing how Bramble Maw’s influence, bargains, and corruption can ripple outward into your world.

This one-shot is dripping with folk horror atmosphere — fog-choked rivers, fungal corruption, and the suffocating weight of bargains made in desperation. Whether your players fight to free Greymoor or sell their souls for survival, the river always remembers.
